Revegetation of Buildings & Plant-Covered Walls
What is building revegetation ? Why do it ?
Which plants to choose ?
Here are our expert advice !
Why revegetate buildings ?
Ecological issues have been at the center of current societal debates for many years. The need for nature is increasing in urban areas. This is why more and more companies and individuals feel the need to green their environment. This ecological trend has brought plants in buildings and interior landscaping back into fashion, and multiple projects have taken shape in urban centers.
Buildings and activity centers offer landscapers and architects vast playgrounds and inspiration.
Vegetated walls
There are 2 types of vegetal wall :
the facade planted with added cladding,
the vegetated facade with climbing plants.
Their installation is totally different, but these two types of green walls have the same objective.
First of all, plant walls allow to purify the air because the plants filter the CO2 particles and reject the oxygen. The plants are then beneficial for the regulation of the temperature because they absorb the light. Walls covered with plants are also noise reducers and therefore excellent sound insulators, both inside and outside. Plants also have an effect on health at work: studies show a reduction in work-related ill-being in green offices; productivity is increased, the presence of plants contributing to the feeling of well-being at work.
If a green wall requires an investment in time and money - design, installation and maintenance - a green installation is very often profitable in terms of energy, but also for the well-being of the building's users.
Vegetated roofs
The creation of green roofs offers many possibilities: managing rainwater, promoting and preserving biodiversity in urban environments or cooling buildings in summer.
However, the creation of green roofs requires a certain level of expertise. A landscaper is essential to adapt the plants to the specific environment of the roofs so that they can live and settle down durably in time.
Green roofs are a key element in the preservation of biodiversity in urban areas: they provide a safe and accessible habitat for many species in the urban concrete jungle. You can therefore contribute to the protection of the environment by improving the living conditions of urban animals.
