Intechmer (Cnam)

Sea Garden

The National Institute of Marine Sciences and Techniques (Intechmer) of the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM) is located on the coast, at the gateway to the Val de Saire. Its marine garden is part of the new rationality of the overall renovation project of the site, while bringing out the poetry of the place by highlighting the action of the natural elements characteristic of the region, wind and water. The exterior spaces are inspired by indigenous plant formations in a biomimetic spirit. The landscaping project, exemplary in terms of sustainable development, contributes to the scientific influence of the institute.

On the sea side, the white dune hosts a green theater protected from the wind. A wetland behind the coast, characteristic of the Val de Saire, allows for the natural regulation of rainwater. The moors of the gray dunes with gorse and anemomorphic trees (formed by the winds) protect the site from the west and southwest winds while masking the parking lots. The only exception, in the center, is a small naturalist garden of coastal flora of the future world, reminding us of the scientific vocation of the institute.
