A Parisian Garden Oasis: The Simonson Landscape Project

Overview

Last year, Simonson Landscape embarked on an ambitious project near Paris, transforming a typical backyard into a stunning extension of a client's home. This newly designed space is not just a garden; it is a versatile haven for family and friends to gather for significant celebrations and tranquil moments alike. The design intricately combines functionality with aesthetics, incorporating modern lighting, natural slate, and custom woodwork to create a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.

Design and Features

The Wooden Mezzanine and Children's Play Area

The focal point of the garden is the wooden mezzanine, an elevated space that extends the living area outdoors. This section includes a children’s swing and a ladder, providing a perfect blend of playfulness and style. The mezzanine's design uses high-quality wood, ensuring durability and a natural look that complements the surrounding greenery.

Custom-Built Outdoor Lounge

Adjacent to the mezzanine, the outdoor lounge area features integrated seating crafted from the same high-quality wood. This custom-built arrangement not only maximizes space but also enhances the garden's aesthetic appeal, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and social gatherings.

Central Dining Area

At the heart of the garden lies the central eating area, surrounded by lush vegetation. This space is designed with a large outdoor table, providing ample room for hosting dinners and parties. The proximity to the home’s kitchen makes it a convenient setup for entertaining guests.

Concrete Bar

Adding to the entertainment facilities, a robust bar made of concrete sits on one side of the garden. This feature not only serves as a practical element for parties but also adds a touch of modern industrial style to the space.

Landscaping and Plant Selection

The garden uses opus incertum styling with slate to pave paths and define spaces, creating a rustic yet elegant ground cover that complements the lush plantings. Strategic placement of plants around the seating and dining areas enhances the sense of privacy and immersion in nature.

Innovative Planting in the Simonson Landscape Project

Unique Blend of Rare and Indigenous Species

In this project, a sophisticated approach was taken in selecting the plant varieties used in the garden. The design blends rare plants with indigenous species, creating a biodiverse environment that not only thrives but also supports local wildlife. This thoughtful combination contributes to a sustainable garden ecosystem that is both beautiful and beneficial.

Drought-Tolerant Plants in Sunny Areas

In the sun-drenched parts of the garden, drought-tolerant plants were carefully chosen for their ability to withstand dry conditions. These plants are not only hardy but are also capable of reseeding themselves in the gravel, ensuring continuous growth and coverage without requiring constant care. This self-sustaining approach reduces the need for frequent watering, aligning with environmentally friendly gardening practices.

Textured and Contrasted Foliage in Shaded Areas

The shaded areas of the garden feature a collection of plants with textured and contrasting leaves. This selection is strategic; the varied leaf textures and colors play with light and shadow, adding depth and visual interest to these cooler, less sunlit spots. The arrangement of these plants in shaded areas demonstrates how differing foliage can be used to enhance aesthetic appeal and create a sense of lushness and density.

Simonson Landscape has masterfully created a multifunctional garden that serves as a private retreat and a social hub. The thoughtful integration of various elements makes it not only a testament to superior craftsmanship but also a place where memories are made. This project exemplifies how outdoor spaces can be transformed into sophisticated extensions of one's home.
